GCHS students Leonard and Hancock participate in Hoskin’s internship

Mia Hancock and Shelby Leonard volunteer at  Hoskins every B day, during the second block, to build a stronger work experience.

The majority of seniors do internships to gain work experience, Hancock and Leonard are a part of the work program at Hoskins, they’ve been working with Hoskins for about a month.

Hancock said, “I have learned how the kitchen and front of the restaurant is ran and have learned to prepare different pies, Pico de Gallo, chips, and sauces.”

Even though neither of them wants to go into culinary, both agreed that it gives them experience in how behind the scenes of a restaurant works.

“I help prep food like cutting pies or making Pico for the day, serve customers, and learn my way around a real kitchen,” said Leonard.

The two are very good friends, so it helps them adjust together in the restaurant and work together easier. Leonard made sure to mention that she was very happy to have Hancock working with her and Hancock mentioned her own fond memories of her time with Leonard.

“My favorite memory so far is guessing song titles with Shelby from the background music while filling sauces,” said Hancock.

While working at Hoskins together the two will make many more fond memories, build their work experience, responsibilities, and seek more job opportunities.
