On Saturday, September 16, The Graves County Cross Country team competed at the Mustang Stampede that took place in Muhlenberg, Ky. While many team members set personal records, two teammates set records in Graves County history.
Senior, Tray Madding, has loved running since he was in elementary.
“My Dad ran when I was little, and I would run town 5ks for fun. I also had family that ran cross country, which made me want to join,” stated Madding. Madding even gave up football to pursue his talents in cross country and hasn’t looked back since.
At the Mustang Stampede, Madding finished the boys varsity 5k with a time of 16:40.55. This placed him third on the Graves County record board. Madding is milliseconds away from moving up to the second place spot.
“It means a lot to me knowing that I am one of the fastest runners to come out of Graves County,” says Madding.
This isn’t the only Madding that joined the cross country record board. Senior Emma Madding, now has the second spot in the girls 5k with a time of 19:53:73, only milliseconds from holding the all-time record for GCHS.
“Seeing my name on the record board keeps me motivated for personal goals I have set. A couple of those goals are to hopefully get some Division one offers and set a new personal record. Our team is hopeful of placing runner-up at the regional meet, so bringing my time down as much as I can is very important. ” said Madding
The Region One competition for cross country takes place on October 21st, at Yellow Creek Park in Owensboro, Kentucky.
