Kaylee Wilson, Ireland Harvey, and Rachel Reeves placed 1st, 2nd, and 3rd respectively in the Rotary Speech Contest at the Mayfield Graves County Country Club on February 28.

Kaylee Wilson placed first and was awarded $300 for her speech on serving to change lives.

“I was so grateful to receive the award,” said Wilson. “It was truly a reward to get to meet the incredible people there and maybe inspire some of them with my words.”

Second place went to Ireland Harvey, earning her $200.

“My speech was about community service,” said Harvey, “more along the lines of how community service teaches the person serving positive qualities about themselves and others.”

Rachel Reeves placed third and was awarded $100.

“My speech was about serving to change lives by providing health care centered around autonomy and giving women options, counseling, and guidance during their pregnancy, delivery, and postpartum experiences,” said Reeves.

Participants prepare their original speeches prior to the event.

“Instead of focusing on how I messed up, I concentrated on how I stepped out of my comfort zone and did something I had never done before,” said Rachel.

This contest is an annual event, so make sure to take advantage of this opportunity next year.
