2014 Year in Review

Although 2014 has come and gone, leaving many of us dumbfounded at how fast it went by, there were still some pretty cool things that went on. Here are a few events that made 2014 one of a kind.

The top downloaded app of 2014 was Facebook with 115.4 million downloads. The YouTube app came in second place with 83.4 million downloads. The list of the most downloaded apps also includes Instagram, Twitter, Netflix, Snapchat, and Pinterest.

We can’t forget Emma Watson’s speech she delivered on September 18th on gender equality, which made the news for a while, or Ellen DeGeneres’ awesome celeb filled selfie at the Oscars. Of course there were a few upsetting things that happened such as the app “Flappy Bird” which was removed from app stores earlier in the year, leaving many people, who were quite addicted to it, angry. We also can’t forget actor and comedian, Robin Williams, who died in early August. Some of 2014’s top influential celebrities include Beyonce, Matthew McConaughey, Pharrell Williams, Miley Cyrus, and Carrie Underwood.

A few of the most popular movies included The Interview(which landed spot #1), The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Divergent, and Gone Girl. The #1 most popular TV show of 2014 was Game Of Thrones. Following it in 2nd place was American Horror Story. Also on the list were a few other popular tv shows: The walking dead, Breaking Bad, The Big Bang Theory, Sherlock, Orange Is The New Black, and Doctor Who.

A few of the biggest selling artists in 2014 were Ed Sheeran with his album “X”, One Directions album “Four”, Taylor Swift with “1989”, and Beyonce with her album “Beyonce”. A few of the most streamed songs included Rather Be by Clean Bandit ft. Jess Glyne, Happy by Pharrell WIlliams, All Of Me by John Legend, and Rude by MAGIC.

Along with some completely normal things, there were also some pretty strange events in 2014 as well. Like, a woman giving birth to a baby in a Walmart parking lot while her husband was inside shopping or how another woman was(supposedly) able to go the entire year consuming nothing but Starbucks.
