The GCHS Fine Arts Department recently came together to put on a new, never before seen show. The show, Sweetheart Serenade,  featured performances from the Chamber Orchestra, Jazz Band, Musical Theatre, and several of the Choir groups.

With a reoccuring theme of the importance of love and those we love, the pieces performed ranged from scenes from Romeo and Juliet to a stunning rendition of the song “What I Did For Love”, performed by Drama and Musical theatre groups, respectively.

The main event of the night, however, was the second act. The Cupids, played by members of the Drama group, led the audience from the PAC to the Commons, where we were greeted by a solid hours worth of skits and songs by, yet again, the drama group and Jazz Band.

Kaylee Thompson, one of the three Cupids, praised the event for it’s ability to bring everyone together, saying, “It gave everyone, even if they weren’t in  a Fine Arts program, a chance to get involved and have fun together.”

A section of the Commons was divided off as a dance floor. Slow songs mixed with upbeat numbers like the Cupid Shuffle and Love Shack quickly got everyone moving.

Chaney Warren, member of the Musical Theatre class, said, “I think it went really well, for a first time. Everything went smoothly and it was a nice change from the normal concerts we usually have.”
