You’re a senior.. Now what?
Ok, seniors. It’s finally here. Whether you have been dreading this year or embracing the newfound independence that senior year brings, it is here to stay until mid-May. Many assume senior year is frantic with college applications and scholarship deadlines, but instead of thinking of senior year as a hectic mess, let’s plan.
FALL
Narrow your college options
- A list of 3 to 5 is best
Get your dream ACT score
- Senior year is not a time to give up. Continue working for that dream ACT score.
FASFA
- Apply as soon as possible after 1/1/16.
Teacher recommendations
- Gather at least two recommendations for scholarships.
Review transcript, test scores, etc.
- Make sure you have a realistic idea of your scores so when you apply for colleges and scholarships you know what to apply for.
WINTER
Apply to your chosen colleges
- Early applications start as early as November. Apply to your top 2 or 3 colleges so you will have options.
Check guidance website for scholarship updates
- The GC guidance page will be your best friend your senior year. Check frequently for announcements and scholarship information.
Take college tours
- Make sure you love the college you are picking. This means you need to visit the campus and see if that is the type of environment you are happiest with.
SPRING
Send your deposit to your chosen college
- This is for your chosen college only.
Take AP tests
- If you are enrolled in any AP classes, now is the time to rap those up and pass those tests!
Review financial awards
- Come up with a financial plan. Make sure you have enough awards and grants to pay for your schooling.
