“Mockingjay Part 2” Review

Mockingjay Part 2 Review

It is now time for my final review for anything pertaining to the “Hunger Games” franchise. Last night I was able see “Mockingjay Part 2” as part of a Double Feature at the Princess Theater in Mayfield. I have attended each premiere of all four movies throughout the past five years.

My review of the movie is short because I do not want to spoil the book for anyone who hasn’t read it yet (so go read it if you have not).  The movie begins at the very end of “Mockingjay Part 1” with Katniss getting her neck brace removed and attempting to speak the popular lines, “My name is Katniss Everdeen, I’m seventeen years old, my home is District 12.” The movie continued to follow the storyline to the tee, given time cut out some details. Actors recited their lines as if reading straight from the pages off the book which was very reassuring to me as a SuperFan. I laughed, I cried, and I cheered throughout the movie as the film adaptation took me on the the same thrill ride the book did 5 years ago. I disliked that there were a greater number of Katniss/Gale romantic moments than Katniss/Peeta moments, however this was a similar issue I had with the book. For Katniss/Peeta fans, do not fret because we did in fact get to hear the “Real or Not Real” conversation as well as the epilogue scene played out. The final shot of Katniss’ looking at Peeta holding her baby in the woods of District 12 is the visual equivalent to “and they lived Happily Ever After.”
