Graves County students hit the streets

Hannah Templeton & Maranda Branum

Here at GCHS our student body comes together to support the many Eagle sports teams such as football, boy’s and girl’s basketball, and volleyball. But what about the sports that aren’t shown in the spotlight? I decided to take a closer look at what other sport some of our fellow Eagles are participating in; skateboarding.

Senior Michael Jameson, junior Matt Dillon, and sophomore Skylar Lofton are just a few of the skateboarders that inhabit Graves County, often taking to the local skate hangout and streets to practice to their newest tricks and hang out with friends. Dillon and Lofton often go down to Nashville to its skate parks, such as Sixth Avenue, Concrete Wave, and Two Rivers. Jameson sticks to the local skate scene here in Mayfield at Kiwanis Park.

When asked why he enjoys skating so much, Jameson explained “It’s a form of art. It’s way to express yourself. Everyone has their own skate style and I have mine.”

Keep an eye out for your fellow skating Eagles as they make their way down the streets or at parks competing!
