Legend has it… Natchez Trace
Legend has it the two-story white house on Natchez Trace Road in Mayfield is haunted by the spirit of an elderly couple from the early 1900s. Locals claim they have seen faint figures in the yard when they drove by, but nobody dared to speak of the encounters up until the cast from popular show Dead Files came to investigate the home. The house grew in popularity and is now leaving Natchez Trace road known for the haunted house of Mayfield.
After the investigations the cast went to the local Graves County library to get further information. They discovered the couple that bought the land where the house is located both passed from an unexpected disease. However, the man passed away in 1937 in the old Mayfield hospital. Within a few years after his passing his wife started to experience the same symptoms and passed away in her bedroom from the same diagnosis. This left the land haunted by the spirit of the woman.
According to a former house resident’s interview on Dead Files, “We had come up with multiple remedies to erase the spirits. We created a dome in our yard with some rocks because I had read about if you do this it is supposed to capture the ghost.” She continues, “We hung up sage and kept bottles of holy water in every room just in case we had an encounter with the spirits.”
She has since moved out, and the residence is now occupied anonymously.
