Deadly energy drink

Deadly+energy+drink

You thought a risk of heart attack from an energy drink was bad? Wait until you hear about this energy drink from the 1920’s.

RadiThor was a concoction of radium and water that was marketed as an “energy drink” and was said to enhance the consumer’s senses. This seemingly miracle drink costed $1, which is equivalent to about $15 today. There are reports of people that drank this and got radiation poisoning that resulted in death.

The most surprising factor of this drink is that the dangers of ingesting this element were known to be deadly, yet there were no health regulations established and people drank the poison anyway.

According to theconversation.com, “{these} radium -containing energy drinks disappeared from the market by 1932.” This halt of production didn’t prevent 2018 sellers on ebay from posting listings of empty bottles of RadiThor saved all these years for $600 or more. It is unknown if these bottles are still radioactive, yet it wouldn’t be a surprise; those who died from radiation had to be buried in a lead casket in order for the radiation to be contained and unable to disrupt any other living things.
