Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, directed by Joachim Ronning, is a ghastly turn of the famous fairy tale- Sleeping Beauty. It’s another Disney fantasy where the light wins over the darkness. But here, Maleficent is both the light, and the darkness, and she owns it. When you think of someone being a “good” or “bad” person, it is just your perception. Maleficent is a good example of this. In the movie, the witch who puts a 16 year old princess into a never ending sleep, must be evil, right?  In the new movie, the plot takes another level. Elle Fanning plays the Sleeping Beauty, and does a beautiful job.  Michelle Pfeiffer, who plays the Queen, is stunning and she plays her role so well. Chiwetel Ejiofor plays an interesting character, and his scenes with Angelina Jolie are excellent. Sadly, he gets very little screen time. Angelina Jolie, did another great job with her role as Maleficent. 

Overall, the movie delivers a message. Not only for kids, but also for adults, is there some real eye opening lessons. We are living in a time where leaders are establishing fear in their followers by portraying “evil” by  using that fear to start violence & gain more power. This movie opens your eyes to manipulation and shows you that there is a better way with love, peace and coexistence.
