February 8-10 was the Murray State University Admitted Students Weekend where myself and other soon to be Racers received the opportunity to interact with Murray State faculty, staff and current students. It was also an opportunity to sign up for summer orientation.

I started my weekend on Friday by going to the Arthur J. Bauernfeind College of Business where I received information about my planned major, which is Journalism! Since I was the only person who showed up for journalism, I met with Dr. Allen White, Dr. Bob Valentine, and Dr. Elizabeth Thomas and received an overload of reliable information that helped me know that I was making the right choice by going to Murray State.

While he isn’t well-known around Graves County, my father made his mark at MSU by also majoring in Journalism. Dr. Valentine and Dr. White spent most of the session telling me about the many adventures they had with my father while in college. Some of them were funny and some were hilarious! It was great experience, I learned new things about Murray State’s journalism department and my dad.

I also went to the new Multicultural Center where I met Dr. S.G. Carthell, who told me what the new center and the people involved could do for me as an African-American. I learned about multiple scholarship opportunities and also had the opportunity to apply for one. To end the night, the MSU staff put on a showing of Avengers: Infinity War. Before the movie began, I met vice president, Dr. Don Robertson, and we talked about all of the conspiracies of the next movie, along with other superhero movies.

I learned a lot more about Murray State University over the weekend, but these were some great highlights of my experience. Speaking of highlights, my family and I ended our Saturday with free tickets for the women and men’s basketball games against SIU-Edwardsville which both teams won 81-75 and 86-55.
