Construction, snow causes parking woes
Thursday was the first day back for students following the eight snow days that had the county schools closed. Virtually anyone who walked into the school this morning was bound to see the lack of ceiling tiles down multiple hallways, exposing pipes all over the school.
The ceilings are vaulted, and industrial, and the hallways honestly feel quite spacious. That being said, many students expressed feelings of anxiety with seeing the inner workings of the school just above their heads (the lack of ceiling tiles doesn’t make walking through school any more dangerous).
Parents dropping of the kids, students that drive, and anyone that would have any reason to be in the back parking lot might have noticed the inconvienently roped off section of the parking lot. Wrapped in caution tape, about 60 parking spaces are no longer able to be used.
Occupying this space is a single pickup truck, and a trailer. The appearance of a shipping container and a large dumpster also have restricted mobility and parking in the lot. Between the front parking lot and the back, nearly one hundred parking spaces are filled either by snow or by these materials that are necessary for the construction the school is undergoing.
This construction is due to a new heating and air conditioning system that the school is installing, and not only will the ceiling remain bare until the summer, but those whopping three rows of roped off parking spaces will stay roped off until construction is completed.
Once the snow melts, that dumpster and the shipping container are planned to be pushed against the green house to minimize the construction’s impact. Principal Matthew Madding stated that the number of spaces in the back lot might be subject to change, but only slightly.
