Whitnell, Smith named Wendy’s Heisman recipients

HIGH SCHOOL HEISMAN– Seniors Tanner Smith and Emily Whitnell were recently named as recipients of the Wendy’s High School Heisman award.

Emily Whitnell and Tanner Smith were named Graves County High School’s Wendy’s Heisman for the 2014-15 school year. To be eligible for this award student athletes must participate in at least one varsity sport and maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 for their years in high school. Winners are determined by an application process and judged by Scholarship Management Services, a division of Scholarship America.

Whitnell recently signed a Letter of Intent to attend Freed Hardeman University and play golf. Whitnell has been a member of the Golf, Tennis and Lady Basketball teams during her high school career participating in the state tournaments for Golf and Tennis multiple times. Emily is the daughter of Chuck and Binkie Whitnell of Mayfield.

Smith is currently weighing his post high school options with an offer to play Junior College Baseball in Illinois. Smith has been a member of the Graves County Baseball program for 5 years. Tanner has started for the Eagles the last 2 seasons. Tanner is the son of Rodney and Stacey Smith of Symsonia.
