THROWING OUT THE FIRST PITCH– Administrators use a T-shirt sling to throw shirts to an audience of faculty and staff on opening day.

On August 5, 2014, teachers and staff of the Graves County School District traveled to Graves County High School to kick off the 2014-2015 year.

Various school buses from the elementary schools transported staff with pom-poms and lots of school spirit.  The motto for the upcoming school year is “Team Work Makes the Dream Work;” and with the gym decorated to resemble a baseball stadium, The Eagles’ Nest could be the next Field of Dreams. Each school proved their excitement for the new school year with cheers and matching t-shirts, and Farmington Elementary brought along their Wildcat mascot to pump up the crowd.

To begin the rally, the GC Team Band, made up of employees from each school performed the National Anthem. Johnny Myers, custodian at Central Elementary provided the invocation before Superintendent Kim Harrison threw the first pitch. Each school’s ‘stats’ or achievements of the previous year were highlighted to showcase their hard work.

Reaction by school faculty was overwhelmingly positive. “The opening day for the faculty was awesome,” teacher Greg Greenfield explained. Greenfield is the new geometry teacher at GCHS. “All the schools came together and were supportive of one another, as well as new staff members.”

To conclude the assembly, eight of our youngest Eagle students presented the word TEAM, one letter at a time, to show that Together Everyone Achieves More.
