As the third quarter begins at GCHS new rules are being enforced due to many referrals written. At Graves County High School, we strive to keep our classrooms safe and on task at all times. Phones have become a big distraction in our classrooms. In each class, there is a phone pocket that students put their phones in until class time is over. This may seem like punishment but, it does help a lot to keep the students focused and on task.
Freshman; Lillie Easly said, “The new phone pockets help me to focus and do all of my work. I am usually distracted and trying to check my phone all of the time, but now I can give my full attention to work.”
Out of all of the referrals given in the third quarter, unauthorized use of electronic devices had the highest amount given.
Freshman; Maddy Woolf, “At first I didn’t like not being able to have my phone, but over the last few weeks I’ve realized that my focus has been better.”
135 students had been given a referral due to having phones out at times they were not needed. Phones were one of the main problems.
School teachers/staff tried other things like having students keep their phones on them during class, but take their phone if they have their phone out during class. That worked a little but some students still took advantage and took their phones out anyway. Due to the new phone rules, there has been a decline in the amount of phone referrals given.
