This week at Graves County High School is We Read Week, a national adolescent literary initiative created by the Young Adult Literary Services Association (YALSA, www.teenreadweek.ning.com)

Students are given the opportunity to receive a free book this week through their English classes. Classes have a set time to go to the library, as designated by Mrs. Hiles. On Wednesday through Friday this week, teachers are asked to give students ten minutes during each class to read their new books, which would equal a full hour of reading each day.

When asked how she felt about We Read Week, librarian Linda Hiles commented, “It’s my favorite week of the year because I love to see kids getting excited about books and reading.”

The books are set up on tables and categorized by genres such as supernatural, military, romance, and sports.  “We Read Week helps kids who haven’t read in a while to start up again,” said sophomore Laura Brown.
