Covid-19 cases rise across Graves County

Since Christmas break, the number of Covid-19 cases across the state has risen a concerning amount.

It has become apparent with the decreasing number of students in each class that Covid-19 has made a comeback in our county as well.

“A total of 97 students are quarantined as of January 18,” said high school nurse Oetjen. “Only 2 teachers are quarantined.”

However, according to the district data there are 51 active student cases and 8 active faculty and staff cases at the high school alone.

Central Elementary reports 16 active student cases and 7 active faculty and staff cases. “We are running out of substitutes for the teachers,” said teacher Karen Kingins.

This raises the question of whether or not Graves County will go into another stretch of NTI.

“I don’t believe we are going to go into another quarantine just yet,” Ireland Harvey said. “I think we’ll go into another mask mandate before that happens.”
