GCHS students prepare for the 2015-2016 board office student representative election
Every year the students at GCHS come together and elect a student representative to our school board. The candidates make speeches and via a popular vote, all students choose one upperclassman to represent them.
Graves’ student representative has a very special position on the board. The student representative, while not having an official vote, acts like a shadow board office member. His or her opinions, thoughts, suggestions, etc. are taken into account just like any other board member’s. The student representative is encouraged to join in as an active member in discussions regarding the school district.
The 2015-2016 board office position is being sought after by Jacob Govea, Rebecca Green, and Beau Mohon, all of which are seniors. This Friday, August 28, these students will write their one and only campaign speech and will deliver them in front of the student body on GCTV. Afterwards the student body will then vote and choose their student representative.
This school year, students are looking for a louder voice on the board office, leading candidate Beau Mohon to endorse a position in which the student representative receives opinion polls to give to the board. “They could tell me personally, or through a box in the commons and through GCTV I will give them updates.” Rebecca Green and Jacob Govea also endorse Beau’s position of more communication between the board and the students.
