Fatal Kentucky plane crash leaves one survivor

January 3, 2015, a plane crashed in an area not far from Eddyville, Kentucky, killing everyone but one 7 year-old girl.

Among the wreckage of the plane, after trying to “wake up” her family, Sailor Gutzler began walking through the woods in search of help. She eventually came across a house and knocked on the door. The owner, Larry Wilkins, stated in an AP interview “I come to the door and there’s a little girl, seven years old, bloody nose, bloody arms, bloody legs, one sock, no shoes, crying. She told me that her mom and dad were dead, and she had been in a plane crash, and the plane was upside down.”

Authorities say that the small plane reported engine trouble around 5:55 p.m and lost contact afterwards.

Gutzler has since been taken to Loudres Hospital in Paducah, Kentucky and sent home to her remaining family.
