Eagles soccer put Lakers in the grave

Tuesday night, Graves County boys soccer met Calloway County and took advantage of their position at home to beat the Lakers 5-0 in overtime.

About 30 minutes into the second half, the teams started putting forth their full effort, as it was still tied up, 0-0. The game went into overtime and an extra forty minutes went on the clock, all to be spent.

The teams began the overtime battle for the most goals. Standard procedure. However, what wasn’t exactly standard was how senior Hector Garcia scored a goal with extreme speed, quickly within the first five minutes of OT. Calloway players began picking up their feet, moving faster; however, Garicia’s brother, player Rodrigo Garcia, scored our second point with a similar type of fever.

Calloway, now pushing themselves as hard as they could with only about half of the period left, could be seen noticeably rushing the ball. But they weren’t fast enough as Rodrigo Garcia scored again in quick succession, leaving many of the opposing players demoralized with the Eagles’ now-crushing 3-0 lead with fifteen minutes left on the clock.

However, that didn’t stop the away team from playing their hardest, and they kept pushing, but to no avail. Shortly after Hector Garcia and a Laker were flagged for running into one another, Rodrigo Garcia scored again. The home crowd went wild, chanting for their star player.

With only two minutes left on the clock, the Calloway team, now down 4-0, were making a last shove towards a goal. However, while attempting to repel our forwards, junior Andres Guevara made a final goal for Graves, 5-0.
