Varsity Girls after their District win

On February 24, the girls and boys’ basketball teams played in the championship match against Mayfield. The Lady Eagles snagged their 12 district title, but the boys fell short to the cardinals to secure second place. The first and second-place finishes for the basketball teams will put them in the Regional tournament.

Avery Thompson, forward for the Varsity Girls’ basketball team says, “ My favorite part of the season is spending time with my teammates.”

The Eagles took on the Carlisle County Comets during the first round of the tournament on March 2. The game resulted in a 56-51 loss for the boys, and ended their season with a 11-20 record.

Briley VeuCasovic, point guard for the Varsity Boys’ basketball team says, “Looking forward, we need to keep working and trust the process.”

Lady Eagles Head Coach, Lyndon Dunning, exclaims, “We lost 4 senior starters last year and had an incredible season. Our goal is to continue to play at a high level and compete for a regional title. Hopefully, our team can heal up and improve for another season.”

The Lady Eagles played Paducah Tilghman in the first round of the Region 1 tournament and advanced to the semifinals with a 49-39 win. The team fell 48-31 to Marshall County and ended their season with an outstanding 25-8 record.
