“The Sound That No One Knows”
Over the past few weeks one question has been asked by teens everywhere. What does the fox say? The YouTube sensation “The Fox” by the Norwegian duo, Ylvis, has had 70,813,756 views just three weeks after its debut on YouTube. According to Nielsen SoundScan, the song had 60,000 first-week downloads sold, taking its stand at Number 22 on Hot Digital Songs.
Ylvis is a Norwegian duo of two brothers named Vegard and Bård Ylvisåker whom are part of a comedy show in Norway. In the interview on the Ellen Show, the brothers claimed that the idea of the song was meant to kick off the third season of their show and was made in hopes of being poorly written. “It kinda backfired.” Was Bård’s statement about their plans to make a song that was so bad that it would make their show a hit. With over 70 million views in its first three weeks, “The Fox” won’t be going into its hole anytime soon.
So what does a fox say? The lyrics to “The Fox” have a variety of answers to choose from. “Ring-ding-ding-ding-dingeringeding! Gering-ding-ding-ding-dingeringeding! Gering-ding-ding-ding-dingeringeding!” or perhaps “Wa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pow! Wa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pow! Wa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pow!”, are just two of the choices for what kind of sound a fox makes. The fox really makes a short series of barks similar to a dog or a howl like a wolf.
