Friday, March 30 and Saturday, March 31,  the Graves County School District Archery teams competed in the KHSAA State Archery Tournament.

All teams have made multiple consecutive appearances to the tournament, but haven’t been in further tournaments since Farmington Elementary went to Nationals in 2016.

All schools also competed in the NASP(National Archery in the Schools Program)/IBO(International Bowhunting Organization) 3D Challenge, where the shoot at molds of multiple animals ranging from large to small. GCHS finished 16th overall with a score of 1619 with junior, Lucas Smith finishing with a score of 281 and 26th overall in the Boys Division. Sophomore, Makenzie Beanland scored 280 and finished 16th overall in the Girls Division.

When asked if they thought they could make it to Nationals, Senior, Natalee Kendall said “To be honest, no, because Trigg County is really good.” She was right, Trigg finished 9th Overall with a combined score of 3374, they are going to Nationals. as for GCHS, they scored 3204 and finished 75 out of 106 schools. It was a great effort but unfortunately, the Eagles did not qualify for Nationals.

On the bright side, the Middle School scored 3352 and finished 4th overall and will head to Nationals. Even though the High School didn’t qualifiy, it’s still a great day to be an Eagle! Good luck GCMS!
