Wonder by Raquel Jaramillo
An inspirational book review
There have been many authors with the ability to inspire millions by simply telling a tale conjured up in their own minds. This is one such story. Wonder tells the inspiring story that follows a 10 year old boy named August who was born with a major deformation in his face causing numerous serious medical issues throughout his entire life. The very ill young boy had to undergo more surgeries than most adults go through their entire life in just 10 short years.
Though he is pretty smart for a kid his age and with his condition, August, or “Auggie ” has been home-schooled his entire life… up until now. With the upcoming school year starting soon, auggie’s parents decide that it is high time he go to school and live as normal a life as possible. However, for obvious reasons, august is terrified.
While starting at a new school for the first time seems tolerable, the kids are what really has Auggie nervous. How would they react to his face? The book answers that very question and many more. August goes through school and deals with dramatic teachers, overloading homework, and some arrogant kids who don’t know half the struggle hes been through.
This book is a very easy read and includes multiple perspectives to show how every character feels and thinks about the situation at hand. The story is perfect for a wide range of readers but still carries a clear message that everyone could take to heart.
