Two-part series: Is prom worth it?
Making prom the best night of your life
You’re standing with your group of friends in the hallway waiting for the bell to ring and you’re all talking about prom. They’re all so excited until you tell them that you may not go and ignore them when they tell you why you should be going. But maybe your friends are right, maybe you should go to prom. I mean, it will be a lot of fun, right? Here are some reasons why going to prom could potentially be the best decision you ever made.
Deciding to go to prom will give you a good reason to get time for things that you normally don’t have time for. You’ve been complaining for a while about work and how you are always there. Prom will require you to take some much deserved time off to search for a dress and even pamper yourself.
Prom dress shopping can take a lot of effort. As much as you would like it to be, it’s not always easy. Sometimes, a person will only try on one dress and they will know that it’s their dress. But others have to try on dress after dress until they finally decide on one. You will feel discouraged and will want to give up. But right before you do give up, when you’re frustrated and you feel like crying, you’ll put on THE dress. Immediately, you will know that it was made just for you. It’ll be a dress that makes you feel beautiful. Then all the sweat and tears you put into finding the dress for prom will all be worth it.
When it comes to finding a date for prom, don’t be discouraged when you are not having any luck. There will be a lot of other people at prom with their dates, dancing around in the middle of the gym. But you should not feel bad about yourself. Get together with a few of your friends and go with them. Trust me, you’ll probably end up having a ton of more fun dancing around with your friends all night than with a prom date. And you’ll be able to save yourself from any relationship drama that some other couple goes through because the guy danced with someone other than his girlfriend.
On the day of prom, everyone gets up earlier than usual to get ready. There will be tons of people that will have appointments to get their hair, nails, and makeup done and you will probably feel a bit pressured to do the same thing. But, you could save yourself from spending a ton of money and do your hair and makeup at home. And if you’re not the best at hair or makeup, I’m sure you have a family member who isn’t too shabby and wouldn’t mind doing it for you. So definitely don’t feel like you’re obligated to spend hundreds of dollars when you have other options to choose from.
All in all, by the end of the day, you would have had the time of your life. You would have felt gorgeous, danced your feet off, and laughed until you cried. You may have even made a few friends that night that could have changed your life. And you’ll want to kick yourself for ever thinking that you may have not gone to prom because you thought you wouldn’t have had fun. Prom is a once in a lifetime thing so you’ll more than likely not get a chance to go again. So when weighing out the pros and cons about prom, will you choose to stay or go home? There’s nothing wrong with either choice, just make sure you won’t regret your decision in the end.
