After trailing by as much as twelve, the Racers came back and beat the Eastern Kentucky Colonels last Saturday night.

EKU Center, Nick Mayo proved to be a challenge for the Racers as he scored 20 points on seven shot attempts in the first half, and 15 in the second.

The Racer’s defense was loose in the the opening but after a 7-0 to for the Colonels to begin the game it tightened up, but EKU just couldn’t miss. Dujuanta Weaver hit a step back three while falling down as the shot clock expired to give the Colonels a 46-35 lead with 2:01 left to go in the first half and Mayo connected on multiple contested threes. The Colonels continued to make ridiculous shots and finished the half leading 48-41.

Then the Racers began making crazy shots of their own to start the second half. Shaq Buchanan capped off a 15-2 run with a mean windmill dunk to give the Racers a 58-57 lead with 14:56 left to go. After missing every attempt from the floor in the first, Tevin Brown hit four threes in a row. Then, with a 30 second stalemate at 66, Ja Morant drove to the basket and gave Murray State another lead. The Racers did not trail at any point after the 5-0 run.

EKU, with 2:03 left, were down 88-85 but did not score again as the Racers scored nine more unanswered points and fought off the Colonels 97-85. Ja Morant scored 34 points, 10 assists, eight rebounds and two steals. K.J. Williams Scored 13 points and grabbed 13 rebounds while Brown, Buchanan, and Darnell Cowart each scored 16, putting five Racers in double figures.

Murray State is now 11-2 overall and 2-0 in conference play. Next game is 1/10 at UT Martin and available to watch on ESPN+.
