Trump and Clinton win big (again).

Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton were the big winners of their respective primaries on Tuesday. Trump won all five states, and Clinton won all but one.

Last night intensified the inevitability around Trump and Clinton’s nomination bids and created urgent new challenges for their rivals. It also increased Trump’s chances of avoiding contested convention in July. Cruz and Kasich did so poorly that together they were only likely to win just 10 of the 118 bound delegates up for grabs. And Trump’s path to a delegate majority becomes more solidified if Cruz is unable to defeat him in Indiana.

On the Democratic side, Bernie Sanders won only the primary in Rhode Island and fell further behind Clinton in their race to capture 2,383 Democratic delegates to clinch the nomination. Sanders has said that he will stay in the race to further push for the issues that he cites as important and relevant to be included in the party platform (income inequality, health care, campaign finance reform). Clinton has already begun to appeal to Sanders’ supporters by tailoring her message toward unity and anti-Trumpism, in hopes of avoiding losing Sanders’ supporters and swing-voters with each message respectively.
