Graves sweeps Ballard on senior night
Boys and girls basketball remain undefeated in district play after sweeping Ballard Memorial on senior night.
The Lady Eagles defeated the Lady Bombers 62-47 on Tuesday Night. With the win, the girls won clenched the number one seed in district three and remain number four in the region. After senor night festivities, the Eagles took the court, winning 80-62. With the win, they are one game away from also grabbing first seed in the district tournament, as well as a spot in the regional tournament.
Between the boys and girls varsity basketball games, senior night ceremonies took place. Lady Eagle basketball senior Alivia Coleman said, “I was excited but nervous at the same time. It was kind of upsetting to think that everything is coming to an end. It has been fun, but I’m glad to see where my life is going.”
While athletes are sad to see their high school careers end, and look forward to their futures starting, coaches know that although it’s a special night, the game must go on. Head boys basketball coach Terry Bridsong said, “After 18 years you know it’s part of February, so it’s not bad. We (coaches) go about our business as usual, while planning for the 15-20 minutes it takes to have senior night.”
It has been quite a year for the senior members from the boys and girls basketball teams, CoEd cheer squad, all-girl cheer squad, dance team and bowling team. This year, the CoEd squad came in third at nationals, and the all-girl squad won a regional title. The bowling team is currently competing in the state tournament, with senior bowler Kelsey Latta winning her third straight singles regional title.
As for the basketball teams, they will travel to Mayfield on Friday night to play a double header against the Cardinals. With a win, both boys and girls will advance to the regional tournament and be the number one seed for the district three tournament.
