GCHS Senior and Cadet Lieutenant Colonel Alex Medley was awarded a full ride ROTC Scholarship to attend Western Kentucky University.

Medley’s application highlighted his extensive qualifications, such as being commander of the National Champion Raider Team, placing top ten in individual raider competitions, and receiving the Medal of Heroism most recently, among many other awards.

“Leadership definitely pulled a lot of weight in that division,” said Medley.

This scholarship allows Medley to choose his major and all academic fees will be paid, including a meal card, dorm room, and $400/month stipend.

“I’m very excited to receive this scholarship,” said Medley. “This is a huge deal to me financially, so this is my way. This is huge.”

Medley plans to major in Criminology and pursue a career in law enforcement after joining the military and becoming an officer.

Senior Army Instructor LTC(R) Caldwell called Medley an “awesome young man with an unlimited future.”

“Colonel Caldwell is definitely my mentor,” said Medley. “He’s pushed me in the right directions and I can’t thank him enough for that.”
