In honor of  Veteran´s Day, November 11th, 2021, we decided to interview GCHS History Teacher Alex Truelove about his time in the service.

The Military has five main branches: The Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, and Marine Corps.

¨I joined the Marine Corps Infantry shortly after 9/11,¨ Mr. Truelove stated. “I knew that´s what I wanted to do. I felt compelled to enlist.¨

Truelove then went on to basic training for approximately 13 weeks in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

¨I found boot camp to be enjoyable for the most part,¨ he said. ¨It was challenging; mostly mentally, but also physically.¨

Truelove was then stationed in Afghanistan multiple times, most recently 2012.

“I was often on foot on the front lines, and I also often worked with machine guns,¨ he added.

Unfortunately, Truelove’s best friend died in action in 2012:¨It was then that I realized that was the end of my career path in the military.¨
