GC Board of Education approves metric to lift mask mandates in the future

The Graves County Board of Education approved a metric today to allow masks to be optional in school buildings after the incidence rate of Covid-19, as reported by KDPH, is 20 or less in Graves County for 14 consecutive days.
October 20th marks the 7th consecutive day in this zone. Masks will continue to be required on buses as this is a federal mandate not a local decision.
Masks have been required in schools since March of 2020 when the first wave of Covid-19 struck the United States.
Just last month, the incidence rate exceeded 140 in Graves County. Today, 18.4. The approval of this new system sparks hope that Covid cases will continue to decline as vaccination rates increase, and, more importantly, our community will continue to heal and recover from the almost 2 year pandemic.
Principal Alison Gregory reminds students that masks are required in the building until the metric is met. Students should continue to monitor their health and stay home if feeling unwell.
