Lexie Mathis wins first place in Rotary Speech Contest
GCHS Sophomore Lexie Mathis won first place in the Rotary Speech Contest last month. Two other GC students placed as well: Zacharie Lamb placed 2nd and Hannah Beth Elliott in 3rd.
The Rotary Club is a community organization that holds a yearly contest. Each Rotary district competes, and then the 1st place winner will move on and compete against 2 others.
The theme for this year’s speech was “Creating Opportunities. According to Mathis, students had to tell about a time that created opportunity for them.
Mathis also received a monetary prize for her piece. She will move on to the Regional Rotary Speech competition at a later date.
