New years resolutions can be tricky to follow through with. 80% of these resolutions fail by the second week of February. But, here are some tips to help you stick with your resolution.
First, Self-discipline. Changing a habit can cause stress, which will most likley lead to resistance. To have a sucsessful resolution, you must have the self-discipline to endure the stress this change is bringing. You can improve your self-disciple by, setting a clear goal and execution plan, giving yourself a backup plan, and knowing your weaknesses.
Next, Time Management. Some resolutions cannot happen overnight – the results take time. Instead of expecting immediate results, you should approach any sort of goal-setting as progress. Have a plan for how you want to complete your goal and follow it accordingly. Prioritizing also ties into time management. So when life happens, don’t stress about your goal, prioritize the important needs first.
Lastly, Focus. Changing or picking up a habit is difficult; it is a mater of making small changes, one at a time, rather than drastic changes all at once. If your main focus is on the end result of your goal, the steps used to get there can be overlooked and forgotten. Instead, you shoud focus on your behavioral changes, making sure you are following through with each little step. Which will help you move towards your end goal.
By incorporating these three steps into your New Years Resolution, your chances of succeeding are much higher!
