With the rain comes bigger flames. Even though it has rained in some parts of New South Wales officials warned that temperatures would rise by Thursday.  Also huge fires in Victoria and New South Wales could meet and create a “mega blaze.”

“There is no room for complacency,” NSW state Premier Gladys Berejiklian warned on Monday.

“This morning it is all about recovery, making sure people who have been displaced have somewhere safe,” she continued. Despite the respite, haze pollution remained dangerously high.

There were about 136 fires burning across New South Wales as of Monday, and of those 69 are not contained. Officials say 24 people have died nationwide this fire season. About 480 million animals have died, and in total , more than 14.7 million acres have been burned across the country’s six states.
