The Graves County Eagles were defeated by the Mayfield Cardinals during the Battle of the Birds on Sept. 20, 2019 with a final score of 48-7.

During the 3rd quarter, Nelson Browning, wide receiver, got severely injured. While spirits dwindled, Clint McKee revived the scoreboard with a touchdown.

“I think it motivates me to get in the end zone more, but also motivates me to help my team score more,” claims McKee, “So we don’t go 7 in a whole game, we can start putting 30 points, 40 points a game.”

For the senior players, the game was more than just any football game. To Riley Thompson, the game was the end of an era. ” I think it was always fun competing against those guys,” Thompson expresses, “They’re always a really good team. It sucks that it was my last year playing against them. We didn’t come out with a W.”

Coach Fite added, “We have to improve on every aspect of the game…. We also need to be better coaches, we also need to be better prepared for it. It’s not just on the kids, it’s on the coaches too.”
