Insane Gas Prices

In the summer gas prices rise up to $2.57 a gallon, but why?

Traditionally, people believe gasoline prices rise in the summer because more people travel and take longer vacations. This fuel costs more to produce, so it leads to higher gas prices during the summer months.

There are many other factors like: Government regulations, crude oil prices and supply, problems at refineries in pipelines, and the switching of seasonal blends impact the costs. Although, to us, our gas prices may seem very high, in California their summer prices increase up to $3.73 per gallon.

The EPA; Environmental Protection Agency, requires reformulated blends to be used in metropolitan areas from April through September. This has been happening since the Clean Air Act was introduced. The costs of producing this type of fuel are higher, leading to a 2-4 cent per gallon increase in prices on average, which is partially a reason why prices go up in the summer.

Next time you’re on your way to get gas, and complaining of the prices, just be thankful you aren’t paying as much as places like California, New York, Maine, or even Alaska!
