Saturday, February 23, 2019, the GCHS Chess Team traveled to the Quad A. Regional tournament. They then faced off against 12 other teams, finishing in 5th place.

The regional competition was held in the Paducah Tilghman High School gym. There they played up to five rounds of chess, some lasting as long as two hours. Six of our team members had more than two wins.

The team has grown in the past years in an impressive way. There are a few students who have recently joined and really enjoy the opportunity. For instance, GCHS Seniors Tracy Hibbard and Tate Keeling, both joining only this year, both competed this past weekend.

Hibbard states, “Overall it was such a fun time. We would have advanced to state if we only had one more point.”

He recommends the team to other students looking for a challenging but exciting way to spend their spare time.
