Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzmán Loera was found guilty on Tuesday, February 12th of all counts of his criminal activity. As the decade long leader of the Sinaloa cartel, he pocketed nearly 14 billion dollars of illegal money from which he shipped literal tons of drugs into the United States and plagued Mexico with relentless bloodshed and corruption.

Scheduled for June 25th, Guzmán will arrive at his sentence hearing and will face life in prison after being found guilty by Judge Brian M. Cogan of 10 guilty verdicts on all 10 counts of his indictment. According to the New York Times, The U.S Attorney for East New York, Richard Donoghue, said “this is a victory for law enforcement because, in Mexico, over 100,000 innocent lives were taken because of “El Chapo’s” drug violence.”

Everyone in the open court knew Guzmán was guilty, and his lawyers almost knew too, stating “When he came here he was already presumed guilty by everyone, unfortunately. We weren’t just fighting evidence, we were fighting perception.”  The lawyers challenged every piece of the government’s evidence but ended up losing the case.
