I became a Murray State Racer basketball fan when I was nine years old, through the last seven years I’ve seen nothing but greatness from each different team. But there’s always that one player from each group that seems to shine just a bit more than the others, for example, Isaiah Canaan(2009-13), Cameron Payne(2013-15), and Jefferey Moss(2012-16). Now, after reminiscing on this season I can say the newest Racer great I’ve seen was JUCO transfer, 6’8 stretch Forward/Center, Terrell Miller Jr.

Since transferring, Terrell finished his career at MSU with 979 minutes played and connected on 178 shots with 355 attempted(that’s just over 50%) and 70 of them being threes(40%)giving him a total of 483 pts. He also hit 72% of his free throws(57-79) and recorded 275 rebs, 50 ast, 16 blks, and 26 stls. Those are some impressive given he only played for two years.

One thing I’ll always admire about Terrell is that every time he played this year, he left it all on the court. Every huge opponent the Racers faced for example, Belmont, Jacksonville State, and Auburn, Miller seemed to have dominant showings. In those games alone he averaged 14 rebs and 18 pts.

The game that made me actively start saying that Miller was my favorite Racer this year was the March 16th loss in the first round of the NCAA tournament vs the West Virginia Mountaineers. Yes, the Racers did lose 85-68, but without Miller’s 27 pts and 17 rebs it could have been a lot worse. Every time the announcers were counting MSU out or treating them like a low-tier school, Terrell would have a huge answer. No joke, he showed up big time and for that, I have nothing but huge respect for this guy. You may never even read this but, thank you Terrell Miller Jr. for giving the Racers some type of fighting chance and getting them to the tournament for the first time since 2012, I wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors. And as always GO RACERS!
