On Saturday, January 6th, Graves County High School Forensics traveled to Daviess County to compete in their fourth tournament of the season.

GCHS accounted for 2 of the Duo Interpretation finalists, with Hattie Dunn and Devante Alexander placing 4th. Callie Riley and Carrie Cavitt placed 5th in the event, and the pair went on to place 6th in Improvisational Duo.

Alexander said his favorite moment of the tournament was seeing the face of his performance partner, Hattie, when their names were among 7 finalists. “I was happy,” he said, “because we had spent hours on end practicing and it finally paid off.”

Naima Bhutta placed 6th in Declamation, and Zacharie Lamb placed 6th in Extemporaneous Speaking.

For Bhutta, it was her first time competing in the event: “I was shocked to see my name posted for finals, but I was pleased with my performance. I want to place again this weekend.”

The team, coached by Aaron West and Marci Crouch, had a total of 16 entries and 8 students compete at DCHS.

The next competition will be Saturday, January 13 at Paducah Tilghman High School.
