Juniors (L to R) Tim Kloss, Dionte Gray, Josh Carter and Cody Crider gear up for game day at GCNation.

It’s that time of year again.  On Friday, August 30 the Graves County Eagles football team will take on the Wildcats of Franklin Simpson High School to kick off the 2013 season.

After officially starting practice on Tuesday, Coach Lance Gregory says that the team has prepared as they do every week, by watching game tape and preparing scouting reports. Gregory says that Tuesday was very productive and as long as they play well, will come out with a win.

Guys have stepped up to be team leaders and replace what we lost last year.

— Coach Lance Gregory

Franklin-Simpson is coming off a losing season after going 3-8 during the 2012 season and a loss to Danville on Aug 24. The Eagles are following up one of the best seasons in school history with a record of 10-3 and a district championship. Senior Peyton Puckett says that the team has changed a lot since last year. There are many new faces and new people are expected to step up and lead. “As quarterback, it’s my job to be a playmaker and get the team going.” Puckett said. “Wade Wilson and I have really stepped up and tried to lead.” Puckett also said. Gregory said that the team has a great group of seniors this year, 15 returning from last year.

As the team prepares to take the field Friday night, they are doing everything they can to win. Graves County’s defense has an important job tomorrow night shutting down Franklin-Simpsons running game. “They’re very quick and we need to be quicker.” Puckett said. Even after losing several seniors this past season, the Eagles are not lacking any vital parts. “Guys have stepped up to be team leaders and replace what was lost last year.” Gregory says.

The 2013 season is here, and the Eagles are ready. Hoping to do just as good as last year and make it further in the playoffs, Fridays game will kick it all off. The team is ready, the field is ready, and Friday couldn’t come any quicker.
