We read week
GCHS is hosting “We Read Week” to expand student’s reading time and home library.
During We Read Week every student at Graves County High School gets the opportunity to choose a free book to take home to read. Its purpose is to encourage teens to be regular readers and library users. During this week, reading time is set during every class period for extended allotment aside from morning SSR (silent sustained reading). According to lifehack.org, “the benefits of reading include mental stimulation, stress reduction, knowledge, vocabulary expansion, memory improvement, improved focus and concentration, and better writing skills.” GCHS stresses the importance of college and career readiness, and all of these options will aid students in this.
Sophomore Lauren Bradbury says she has just finished her 100th book of 2016 and is striving to reach 130 books by the start of 2017. Bradbury shares “I always look forward to getting a free book every year to add to my shelf!” GCHS has participated in “We Read Week” for 6 years and many to come.
