The Selection
Every girl’s dream is to become a princess. Right? Not for seventeen year old America Singer. In the country of Illea (a dystopian United States), when the crown prince comes of age, he marries a girl from his country. Prince Maxon will soon have thirty-five girls from all across the nation in the palace waiting on him to make his choice. America catches his eye from the beginning; however, America refuses to play the game, trying not to see the Selection as a competition. What she doesn’t predict is falling for the prince.
“For thirty five girls, the Selection is the chance of a lifetime” This tagline of the trilogy by Kiera Cass is just a peek into what really goes on in this story. While most Young Adult novels favor apocalyptic or supernatural themes, The Selection stands on its’ own. The Selection can be compared to a different version of the TV show The Bachelor.
This story captivates its reader and leaves them chuckling at the witty humor of America Singer, the heroine. For any girl searching for an ideal prince, Prince Maxon, with his gentlemen-like behavior will have you wishing for a Maxon rather than a Romeo.
The Selection is the first in the series, with The Elite as its sequel and finally The One. The One is to be released May 2014, a date which is already marked down in my calendar.
