No Man’s Sky Review

No Mans Sky Review

No Man’s Sky is quite possibly one of the most highly anticipated video games of the year, and definitely one of the most ambitious games of all time. No Man’s Sky is an exploration game that takes place in outer space, and offers 18 quintillion planets to explore, each teeming with secrets and discoveries waiting to be uncovered. Despite all of the things that conflicted with the game’s release, (trust me, there were plenty) the game is here, and the day one update has already added a butt-ton of extra content. Without further ado, let’s jump in to the amazing world of No Man’s Sky!

The Good

The most important thing to know about this game is that the only true way to understand it is to experience it for yourself. Don’t take some reviewer’s opinion on YouTube and label the game as good or bad. No matter what you think you know, you don’t know whether or not you like this game until you play it. This game isn’t for everybody, and you need to know that. If you’re like me, you will want to achieve the main goal of the game by reaching the center of the universe, and this is done by obtaining materials to make warp cells for your space ship’s hyper drive in order to warp from one galaxy to the next. This involves going to a new galaxy, going to a planet to obtain resources, then going to a space station and buying or selling everything you need, and repeating the process. Obviously, there is much more that can be done, but that’s the gist of it. Hello Games, the company that created No Man’s Sky, has been able to deliver on all of their promises. They also continue to do so, and we have been told that in the future, we can expect to be able to build structures, obtain entire freighters, free dlc and, best of all, space whales.

The Bad

As I said, this game isn’t for everyone. Most people might find this game to be extremely repetitive, and get bored with it. After going to a planet and getting some rare materials, and selling it a few times, the game can get a bit uninteresting, and if you go to three planets that all have the same environment (such as hazardous cold, toxic air, or extreme radiation) it almost feels as if you’ve seen it all. No two species of animals in No Man’s Sky are exactly alike, but if you didn’t have this knowledge, you wouldn’t be able to notice. This game had a massive amount of hype around it, and we knew it was going to be difficult for it to live up to the hype. We were given everything Hello Games promised us, yet somehow we were still let down, if ever so slightly.

The Verdict

This game is not for everyone, and that’s ok. It is by no means a bad game. If you’re into fighting games or first person shooters, this game has that, but you’d be better off looking elsewhere. If you like to collect resources, and then use them for a certain purpose or just sell them, this game has that. If you like to explore, this game has that, too.
